Well, regarding the Foundation, that was based on the input of an in-law of mine, who is a make-up specialist. I was recommended a foundation because, at least for regular make up, it closes up the pores so that the makeup lasts longer (as in, it doesn't crack as much). Now... this might be more applicable to thin layers of make up, I suppose, since blush would be more noticeable when the skin wrinkles. I did notice a difference when I did my auguste style, but right now I have no comparison with the whiteface. Perhaps next time I'll try without the foundation.

The lighting is actually a really good suggestion, though. Now that I think of it, I did notice the unevenness of the make up more in bright sunlight than when I was applying it at home.

That makes sense, although, I think the theatrical stuff we use is a bit different from average cosmetics. I think cracking with clown white is typically a function of using too much makeup. I've had my whiteface on for probably 8-10 hours without an issue. If you powder it you should be in good shape, although, I know some clowns who sometimes have to re-powder over a long day.

I've never used them, but if you still want to do something ahead of time something like Mehron's Skin Prep stuff or Barrier Spray would probably act like a primer.
